Our Class Programs
Here at Hamamatsu International:
All our class levels are tailor-designed to meet the needs of students who hold a native or near native level of English corresponding to their age.
Students are assessed and assigned an appropriate class level. We offer a comprehensive testing and assessment program, which includes in-school assessments and support for international exams such as Eiken, TOEIC, TOEFL, and others.
Our class levels are customized to match students' English proficiency based on their age. The number of classes may vary depending on the number of students.
This class caters to children aged 3 to 7 years old. This is the only level that accepts students with no prior English language acquisition. Our school takes pride in providing instruction-based lessons in this level, as well as implementing a thematic progressive approach to teaching. In this class, we use the 'Reach For The Stars' series from the National Geographic English education curriculum. Phonetical awareness, beginner-level writing, and basic vocabulary development are also introduced at this level.
Preschool Level
Grade 1-2 Level
Students aged 7-9 years old with almost native level English skills are accepted into this class. Students in this level are introduced to more collaborative communication activities, as well as writing projects. We use the "Reach Higher 1 A/B-2A/B" series from the National Geographic English education curriculum.

The students in this class are in the age range of 8 to 10 years old and have a native-level English background. We use the 'Reach Higher 3 A/B, leading on to 4A or 4B from the National Geographic English education curriculum. Students at this level take on more technical writing activities and are introduced to collaborative work and class presentations.
Grade 3-4 Level
Grade 5-6 Level
Students in this class are between the ages of 10 and 13 years old with native-level English background. This class uses "Reach Higher 5A/5B or 6A/6B" from the National Geographic English education curriculum. It is also in this level where students not only do short research projects on a given topic, but also conduct student-initiated discussions and debates.
Grade 7 and above
This class caters to a high level of English skills in younger students and junior/senior high students. They are between 10 and 17 years of age. The text is fast-paced and can be very challenging, using the "Lift 1" series from the National Geographic English education curriculum.

All levels work toward an oral project and a written project which are presented in a culmination of each unit. Students may work on these projects individually, in pairs, or as a group. This collaboration encourages building strong communication and social skills in the children.
No student is overwhelmed. Teachers are dedicated to help each student reach their goals. It's a very enjoyable and rewarding experience.
Even if your child is shy at first, they will soon become comfortable speaking and presenting in groups and individually. They can experience living abroad every week without leaving Japan! For students who have returned home, it is a great opportunity to continue their experience abroad.
Come see for yourself!
My child started attending the school before entering elementary school and is still attending now in 6th grade. There are no other English programs that run from 10am to 4pm, so it's very helpful. He especially looks forward to the homemade lunch. He is immersed in English for most of the day, and in the afternoons, is having fun because the school is well-organized and incorporates physical education.
