Saturday
School
Immersion
In Japan, where English is not the main language in which classes are taught at school, it makes it very difficult for those who have been overseas to keep the English level they have attained.
Here at Hamamatsu International School, our Saturday program is designed to emulate a school day in America or Australia or any English-speaking school - it is a totally immersive experience in the English language.
We aim to not only allow them to keep the level they have achieved, but to improve on it in the most natural way possible - that is to teach to their level in English using great resources being taught by professional teachers.
About Our Classes:
Our youngest class is designed for very young learners, from 3 years old to about 7. Some of the students have been overseas or learned English from an international kindergarten elsewhere or have had some experience through English learning. It focuses on whole language learning while giving emphasis to the sounds of language using phonics teaching.
Interesting passages, songs, games and activities help our students learn about the world in English. All subjects are taught: English, drama, math, science, social studies and more.
Our two intermediate classes are for those who are young and have spent time overseas or for those who have never been overseas but have studied English for a few years and are at an Eiken level of 4 or above.
We have two advanced level classes, one for those who are still in upper elementary school or early junior high school and the other for those at upper junior high and above. Many of our students in these classes have attained Eiken level 2, Pre 1 and 1.
I found UCAN2 when I was looking for a school that could help improve my son's English skills. With their Saturday School program, my child is able to study English effectively for six (6) hours through music, art, and enjoy an international lunch menu in addition to language learning. Since enrolling, I have noticed that he has become adept in adjusting to different cultures whenever we travel. When my son first enrolled, he was only 5 years old and 6 hours may seem too long for a toddler, but I am grateful that the teachers were always polite and kind, and helped to ease his tension.
